We asked that all visiting guests offer a small donation to the Junior Shag Program when visiting our dances.  This is in lieu of any cover charge for non-members.  There will be a jar located at the door at each of our dances marked for the donations.  Please consider $5 per guest at our normal AMVETS dances and $10 for special event dances.  Thank-you.

We will have our regular Saturday dance on the 9th.

AMVETS wasn’t available for us on Saturday so we chose to hold our monthly dance one day early.  Open to all members and guest from 8:00 PM until 11:30 PM.

July is Water Festival Month. The Beaufort Water Festival Parade is Saturday, July 24. Our club will be decorating the float Friday afternoon at Jon and Sherry Boyer’s house. More information will be emailed. We will have a heavy appetizer covered dish. Come join us. We will be walking in the parade Saturday morning and will be wearing our red club t-shirt for the parade. See Dannie to get your shirt if you don’t already have a red one.

Saturday night, the Holiday Band will be performing at the Commodore’s Ball beginning at 8:00 PM. This is an excellent shag dance band. Our club has been asked by the Water Festival Committee to use the time slot from 7:00 PM – 7:45 PM to demonstrate the dance. The Leather Souls Dance Team will be wearing the black club shirts but any color club shirt is fine. Come out and support your club. Help with teaching the basic.

Congratulations to Tommy O’Brien and Sheri Aguirre who recently got engaged!

Classes are on-going and up-coming.  See full newsletter for details.

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer here in the Low Country and if you’ve been able to get away on vacation I hope you had a wonderful time. Hopefully you were able to Shag if you left the Carolinas. My wife, Ginger, and I were able to spend part of our vacation up in Ocean City, MD. We found a club that had a live band and a dance floor, we danced the shag to quite a few songs during the night. I’m not sure if the people watching knew what we were doing, but they sure kept an eye on us. We had a blast and a few laughs too.

July puts us in the midst of another Intermediate Lessons class. Tommy and Sheri are getting a well deserved break from lessons during the month of August. We will still be teaching the Special Steps in August but there will be no Beginner or Intermediate lessons.

Our next Beginner Lessons class which starts in September is just about full. We have a few openings for any men who need a female partner to dance with. See me on the dance floor or e-mail me at boardwalk43@aol.com if you would like one of those spots.

I’m sure that everyone in the club will join me in sending a BIG "Thank You" out to Tommy and Sheri for all they do to keep us up to date on steps, new & old, and working with our Beginners to learn our state dance.

Enjoy the summer, drink lots of fluids and keep dancing….

Reminder to all beginners, due to the importance of the first lesson, you must attend the first beginner‘s class or you will have to wait until this class is offered again in September.

We have beginner, beginner II, intermediate, and advanced, special step classes on-going.  See newsletter and "Lessons" page for details.

BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE REFRESHER

If you are having problems with anything you learned (or almost learned) in the Beginner Class or Intermediate Class, Woody is available on the back floor to help you with your dancing. This refresher help is available during the times that regular classes are being conducted on the main floor. The more comfortable you become with the fundamentals, the more you will enjoy dancing.
