Hello Shaggers,

Wow, can it really be February already? The January Beginners class is already over, and it sure looks like everyone who took the class have been practicing those four basic steps, GOOD JOB. Any shagger out there will be sure and tell you, the secret to Doin’ the Shag is practice, Practice, and then some more PRACTICE. We look forward to seeing that class get all of those intermediate steps stored into muscle memory as well. Then get ready to join everyone in our Special Step class, we told you it would be FUN.

Quite a few members were able to migrate to North Myrtle Beach for SOS Mid-Winter the weekend of January 12-15. Everyone I saw as we went from club to club had a BIG Smile on their faces as they danced the nights, and even the afternoons away. That OD Arcade sure is a magnet for this club. When I was told that while in the bathroom on Saturday afternoon, one of our club members overheard someone from another club saying, “Is that Beaufort Shag Club ever gonna’ leave?”. At that point I knew many were having a good time, a great time, and that was only 4:00 in the after-noon! Some of us survived that day and were still able to close down Ducks II at 2:00 am in the morning. Needless to say, a LARGE Time was had by all. I hope that everyone who’s recently joined the club can make some new friends and plan a trip up to North Myrtle Beach during one of the SOS Events. We’ll keep you posted on the timing of that, and the many other LOCAL Shag Events as we learn of them.

The one pretty cool thing coming up this month is the screening of the film Shag Nation at the Beaufort International Film Festival. You should have rec’d a club email with all of those details, if not, email me and I’ll send the details to you – boardwalk43@aol.com The short version is: The 20 minute film is tentatively scheduled to play at 4:30 pm on Friday, Feb 17. The Beaufort Shag Club has been invited to attend the screening, tickets for single screenings are only $5.00. After the Q&A Period with the filmmaker, the Shag Club members attending have been asked to do a demonstration for about 30 minutes or so at approx. 5 pm to 6 pm. All the films will screen at USCB, Center for the Arts. You can check out the trailer to Shag Nation and the other films at www.beaufortfilmfestival.com. Tickets are available for purchase online now and will be available at the Beaufort Film Society office at 708 Carteret St. beginning Friday, Jan 6. We sure hope to see a lot of those Beaufort Shag Club shirts at this event.

I would like to thank Dip Ferrell and The True Tones for sending a copy of their latest CD, Along For The Vibe to our club. This CD will be a great addition to our music library. Please request your DJ's to play some of these great tunes.
I’d also like to thank Pat Patterson for giving our club a free 2012 Winter Workshop promo on his Shag/Beach Music internet radio station http://www.largetime.net/home.cfm over the past months. He did that all for FREE because he really has enjoyed his visits to DJ at our club; and said he’d help promote our Winter Workshop in any way that he could.
Mark your calendars, our monthly Saturday dance is on Saturday – February 11th. What a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
