The Beaufort Shag Club firmly believes in sharing our love of Beach Music and our South Carolina State Dance - THE SHAG !!
SC State law requires all residents to know the basic shag
or risk immediate deportation to a Yankee state !!!
SC Code - 1and2,3and4, 56
We periodically have lessons to enhance the enjoyment of dancing and to share new steps with fellow shaggers.
See Newsletter (Class Schedule) for complete schedule of lessons.
Beginner lessons are free to new members as well as a refresher course for all members.
These consist of four (4) lessons spanning consecutive weeks. These lessons will be held at AMVETS on Ribaut Rd. The cost will be $25.00 per person (this will include your first year membership in the Beaufort Shag Club). To attend these lessons you must pre-register by submitting a membership application (available on the "Contacting Us" page of our website) and sending your remittance. Space is limited so as usual it will be first come, first serve, so sign up early.
The classes are limited to the first 12 couples (includes single signups). This is due to the size of the main dance floor and allows for more instructor assistance.
There is a small secondary dance floor at the back of the room for refresher assistance by another instructor.

Here are Some Helpful Tips!
1. Dancing is not a contact sport! Be aware of the folks around you. If you want to occupy a space, make sure someone else isn't already using it!
2. Save your arm waving for Flag Day! Flying arms usually end up in someone's face.
3. Dance Small! If you require 1/2 of the floor in order to do your thing, you need to change your thing!
4. Find your Spot and keep your Slot! Sorry, but unless you're on a stage, you're not the only one on the floor.
5. Absolutely NO Lifts, Drops, Kicks, Dips, or Aerials. If you don't know what these things are, you're probably not doing them.
6. NO Cigarettes or Electronic Devices - NO Drinks - NO Standing on the Dance Floor while holding a conversation!
7. Rumors or Bashing - Hurtful words are disruptive to the
harmony of the club not to mention damaging to the person that is the object of the rumor or bashing. Give praise to individuals, and if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
(Oh yes, and have fun, too!)
